Anaocha local government council has signed the Local Government By-Law availing all its community the opportunity to benefit from the World Bank assisted Community and Social Development Project.


The General Manager, Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu announced that, the signing of the By- law necessitated the one-day sensitization meeting of traditional rulers, Presidents General, Woman and Youth Leaders of all the communities in the council area with the Agency.


Ebele Ezeh for more on this reports that the event, which took place at the council’s headquarters at Nneni, attracted participants from the ten communities in the council area including staff of the council’s desk office as well as management and staff of the agency from Awka.


In his opening speech, Mr. Mojekwu, who said that they intervene in seven sectors of the state economy disclosed that out of the twelve local government areas benefiting from the project, Anaocha Local Government, is the eleventh to sign the by-law availing the communities the chance to write Expression of Interest to benefit.


Mr. Mojekwu warned that the micro projects should not be executed by the town union executive but by the Community Project Management Committee members who must own and defend their proposals.


The Transition Committee chairman, Anaocha local government area, Chief Patrick Onyedum, who spoke through his deputy, Honourable Peter Anikweta, while expressing joy and confidence on the project, adviced them to strictly adhere to the instructions from the agency for maximum benefit in record time.


Earlier in her lecture titled “CDP CYCLE”, the Operations Manager, Mrs. Uche Nwizugbo disclosed that the Project, which will wind-up in June next year has already completed thirty-six micro projects in thirty-seven communities with numerous others at different stages of completion.


Later in an interview, the Traditional ruler of Obeledu, Igwe Augustine Oragwam, who expressed his readiness to convene a meeting with his subjects to agree on the micro projects that will benefit the poor mostly, said they will follow it up with letter of expression of interest.


In their separate reactions, some of the participants, including the President General of Adazi-Enu, Sir Levi Okparaeke Vice-President General of Akwaeze, Engineer Ebele Nnoli and his Adazi-Ani counterpart, Chief Linus Ezeonugo welcomed the project saying that they would want the project to assist them in the areas of their health centre, toilet facilities within their market and roads respectively.
