Three weeks to the celebration of this year’s Christmas, Anambra State government is not relenting in her effort in ensuring smooth ride during and after the Christmas celebration.
To this end, major roads in Onitsha metropolis are now receiving a facelift, Staff reporter, Blessing Ijedibia on roving duty, observed that potholes at Osuma section of Awka road, as well as that of Ezenwa street by New market road and Savoy junction have been filled by the state government.
Commenting on the exercise, a passerby, Mr Ikechukwu Onyedi while appreciating the state government’s effort, called for the extension of such to other areas of need.
Meanwhile, business activities in the commercial city of Onitsha are gradually reflecting the mood of the season.
At Zik’s round about Inland town Onitsha, an elegant Christmas tree has been mounted though not yet fully decorated, while Johnson Street main market known for decoration materials, is now flooded with Christmas attires coated in Christmas colour of Green, Red and White Commenting on this year’s Christmas sales.
A trader at Johnson Street, Mr Uchenna Ogbodo, said they are receiving patronage from customers gradually while waiting for the peak period.
On transportation, it was observed that some drivers have increased their transport fare while others are yet to.
A journey form Nkpor Park to Main market in a shuttle bus that cost one hundred naira last week has increased to one hundred and fifty naira from the first of December
