Anambra State government has flagged off Dry Season Farming in the State.
The ceremony was performed by Governor Willie Obiano at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.


The Governor used the opportunity to inspect activities at Trade Fair Ground, holding at the same venue.


On arrival, Governor Obiano, took time to go round the different display stands where various agricultural produce, household items, wares, among others were displayed.


According to him, Anambra now consume what they produce which he said, is a thing of joy and success story for his administration.


Governor Obiano explained that the Central Bank of Nigeria and the World Bank are supporting the initiative, and encouraged Ndi Anambra to have a farm in their houses, notng that it will further enhance the State’s food security.


The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, said that Governor Obiano’s administration is ready to sustain food production in the State, even as his Trade and Commerce counterpart, Mr Ucheñna Okafor, stressed that the economic stability being witnessed in the State, is as a result of social stability, made possible by provision of adequate security by the Governor.


Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Anambra Association of Chambers of Commerce, Mr Humphrey Ngonadi, explained that the fair which had become an annual event, gives opportunity to promote agriculture and the manufacturing sectors, adding that they all work hand in hand for development purposes, calling on government at all levels to pay more attention to the development of infrastructure.


The theme for this year’s World food Day is “Our Actions are our Future, Healthy Diet for zero Hunger World”.
