Governor Willie Obiano has called on students to embrace Information Communication Technology and software development to secure a bright future for themselves.
He made the call at Bubendorff Memorial Grammar School Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Area during an event to mark its sixtieth year anniversary celebration.
Government House correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that Governor Obiano, described the artificial intelligence as the future which students should embrace and exploit, urged students to make faith in God and hardwork their watchword.
Governor Obiano who announced that his administration is building more special schools to encourage and help students get certifications in Microsoft development and other computer programmes, called on youths to shun cultism and other social vices.
While pointing out that the government cannot bring development alone, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha whose late father was a one-time Vice Principal of the school said that partnerships between the government and the church in the education sector is working, noting that the State government has done alot to make the children believe in themselves.
In a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor called for repentance and love of God, self and others, in preparation for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
While saying that Anambra State government is doing well in the Education sector, Bishop Ezeokafor used the occasion to call on government at all levels to address the issue of special center’s which he pointed out, is inimical to the growth of the education sector.
Some of the students whose confirmation were sponsored by the Governor appreciated him for his strides in the education sector.
The event commenced with a holy Eucharist celebrated by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor and assisted by other Religious at the School premises.
In attendance were top government functionaries including the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Uchenna Okafor, Secretary to the State government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, some old boys of the school including the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sir Willie Nwokoye, Head of Service, Mr Harry Udu, Chief Mmaduka Onyisi and Senator Victor Umeh.
Commissioners, Heads of various Government Departments, Agencies and parastatals, parents, guardians, students and other old boys of the school, were also present.
