Those occupying leadership positions have been called upon to save Nigeria from its present backward state by going back to God in true repentance, prayers and righteousness.


The Bishop of Ikwuano Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Chigozirim Onyegbule made the call in a sermon during an Advent Ordination of Priests by the Anglican Diocese of Awka presided over by the Archbishop of Niger Province and Bishop of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim.


Bishop Onyegbule who described leaders as watchmen stationed by God in different sections of the society to stand as guards to the people and middlemen between God and men, regretting that Nigeria has perpetually remained in a sorry state because her leaders have refused to totally submit themselves to God.


He urged the newly ordained to always be in good relationship with God to fulfill His will in their Ministry.


Examining the Deacons before they were made priests, Archbishop Ibezim told them that it is their task to proclaim by word and deed the gospel of Christ and to love and serve all alike according to the precepts of the Bible.


Speaking to the ABS, some of the newly ordained priests, including Reverends Eleazar Okere, Jakewealth Akunna and Josiah Anyanwutaku promised to continue to serve in God’s vineyard with the power of the Holy Spirit.


Reverend Canon Ekene Nwafor, of Saint Michael and All Angels Church, Ifite-Awka was preferred an Archdeacon during the service.


Present at the Ordination service were the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Isukwuato-Umenneochi, Right Reverend Mannaseh Okere the legal team of the Diocese, led by its Chancellor, justice Okechukwu Okeke and the Council of Knights of the Diocese.


Among the eleven deacons ordained priests of the Anglican Diocese of Awka were Reverends Chidozie Nwakaire, Josiah Anyanwutaku, Edwin Enemuo, Nnaedozie Chukwuogo and Lucky Onebunne.
Others are Reverends Onyekachi Kachi, Chukwuneneye Okeke, Samuel Omuta and Monday Nwankwo.
Venerable Christian Okafor served as the ordination Retreatant.
