Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, was filled to capacity for the Second Edition of Bishop’s Carol organized by the Angelic Voices Foundation in collaboration with Awka Diocesan Catholic Education Commission.
The festival attracted, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Most Reverend Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, the clergy, the laity, students and other stakeholders under Awka Diocesan Catholic Education Commission.
Voices of the host and invited choirs rented the air with angelic tunes.
The history of festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which dates back to 1880 is a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ that is traditionally followed at Christmas.
Attendees at the festival including the ABS “Heartbeat Chorale,” had the opportunity to sing favorite Christmas Carols including, “O thou that tellest”, “O come all ye faithful”, “How excellent”, “For unto us a child is born”, the classic “Hallelujah chorus”, among others.
In his speech, The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Ezeokafor, shared the essence of Christmas as God’s demonstration of infinite love to mankind, and reminded the faithful of the need to amend their ways and live in peace with one another.
Speaking to the ABS, Dr Amechi Nwachukwu and Mrs Anulika Nwabufo, commended the various choir groups that performed at the event, adding that the event reminded people of the second coming of Jesus Christ.
In a remark, the Education Secretary of Awka Diocese, Reverend Father Hillary Nwajagu, commended the organizers for creating a platform to enhance social integration and spiritual renaissance of the youth.
The initiator of the programme, Dr George-Franklin Umeh, explained that the reason behind the festival is to build a stronger relationship between the Bishop , Catholic students and youths of the Diocese.
The event also featured performance by Reverend Father Melchizedek Obi and India Dance by Angel Gabriel Primary School, Okpuno.
