The vast development in all sectors of the economy in Anambra state has been ascribed to domestication of global trends by the Obiano led administration.
Presenting a paper on “Politics and Globalization: Challenges for Sustainable Development in Nigeria” at the first public lecture, luncheon series and award presentation organized by Political Science Post graduate Students Association of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University ,COOU, in honour of the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Oye said globalization has to do with building human capital development, good governance and transparency evident in Anambra State through the efforts of Governor Willie Obiano who is building strong institutions to entrench lasting democracy in the state.
According to Chief Oye, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University is one of the fastest growing Universities in Nigeria because of the huge investments made by the APGA government in the state and commended the institution for churning out sound minds who graduate at a record time.
The APGA National Chairman who is also one of the award recipients, described APGA as the party that understands the application of power for the good of the people and urged Ndigbo to rally round the party in other to take their rightful place in the country and praised the sterling qualities of the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Okafor.
The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Okafor who is also a Doctorate Degree student of the institution, said the university has progressed immensely and harped on the need to promote local content.
He thanked the students for the recognition and pledged his continuous support to the state owned university.
Another award recipient, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe representing Anambra East and West in the National Assembly noted that politics when applied positively, will change the society for the better, while calling for peace among the various ethnic groups in Nigeria.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Greg Nwakoby represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Ellis Idemobi said the university is on the march to excellence and thanked the state government for its support to the institution describing Anambra state as the Dubai of Africa while the Chairman on the Occasion, Professor Eugene Nwadialor lauded the vision of the students.
The Dean, Faculty of Social Science of the University, Professor Okechukwu Nwankwo who was also an award recipient, insisted that everything about globalization must be contextualized to meet the needs of the masses while the Acting Head of Department of Political Science, COOU, Dr. Ikenna Alumona said the aim of the lecture was to provide a platform for interaction between the university community and the society.
Earlier in a welcome address, the President, Political Science Postgraduate Students Association, COOU, Comrade Collins Okelue said through the programme, they seek to proffer solutions to the challenges of sustainable development in Nigeria.
Presentation of awards and unveiling of the Department’s project featured during the event that attracted Anambra State Assembly members, Members of the academic community, government functionaries, among others.
