Anambra state government has warned operators of illegal brothels across the State to desist forthwith or risk demolition.
The Managing Director of Anambra Physical Planning Board, Mr Nwabufo Anene issued the warning during a demolition exercise at Kara, Atani Road, in Ogbaru Council Area.
About one week ago, the brothel which was used for various criminal
activities, was demolished by the board.
Officials of the State Physical Planning Board returned to the site, on getting hint that the brothel resurfaced, where it was observed, that make shift structures with worn-out zinc were used.
The Acting General Manager of the State physical Planning Board, Mr
Nwabufo Anene said that the move is part of their mandate, adding that the board is committed to controlled development, to enhance the living condition of the masses.
Mr Anene who expressed surprise why the brothel operator came back to start operation, despite government action a week ago, announced that the premises has been officially sealed off, saying that apart from other concerns, the health implication, especially the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases, is worrisome.
The General Manager further warned that the operator should not go into the premises, to avoid further government sanctions, adding that its remodeling will soon commence.
Chief Vincent Mgbemobi and Mr Innocent Okolo who were identified as proprietors of the brothel, said that they have government approval for the demolished structures. They however denied knowledge of who commenced reconstruction of the place.
Miss Chinenye Nkwo whose mother operates a business in the area as
well as Mrs Beatrice Anagor maintained that Kara is notorious for criminal activities, especially at night and commended the State government for the action.
They however, pleaded that the operators be provided with an alternative.
The brothel operators were later arrested by the police.
The entrance into Kara was also barricaded for further government action.
Thereafter, officials of the board also visited Oba Community in Idemmili South Council area and demolished structures erected on government land without approval.
The land which is located opposite Tansian University, Oba, was initially earmarked for building of airport and other projects with economic trees and other compensations duly paid for by the state government, but it was gathered that it was parcellated the land and sold off.
