More students of Anambra Central Senatorial Distsrict extraction have benefitted from Emelie Okika Empowerment Foundation.
The beneficiaries participated in the finals of the 2019 edition of the Annual Quiz competition of the Foundation at Nri in Anaocha Local Government Area.
Paul Ezeoke reports that the Competition was for ninety secondary schools in the Senatorial District with one hundred and eighty participants.
Emelie Okika Empowerment Foundation is a non-governmental organization with primary aim of helping indigent children, widows and other less privileged members of the society through scholarships, promoting quality and gender sensitive education as well as scholarship to qualified mentally and physically challenged students among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Basic Education and Member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Sir Ejike Okechukwu said the initiative will help in building human capacity as the empowerment would motivate the beneficiaries to attain great heights in realizing their life potentials.
Sir Ejike noted that Anambra remains one of the leading States in Education in the Country and urged other privileged members of the society to emulate the benefactor.
In a speech, the President of the Foundation, Chief Emelie Okika said the empowerment is to encourage the students to become outstanding in pursuit of learning and assured that more students will benefit in subsequent editions.
Also speaking the Vice President of the foundation, Mrs Maureen Okika said the empowerment is a life changing experience geared towards encouraging as many students as possible with more drive to intellectual competition as education remains the most empowering force in the world.
In his remark, the co-ordinator of the programme, Chief Ogochukwu Egolum said the empowerment provides strong foundation for the students to excel.
In their separate reactions, the winner of the Art Category Master Chinonso Nweke of Community secondary school Akwaeze and his science counterpart, Miss Amara Ekpunobi of Community Secondary School Abagana thanked their benefactor for his benevolence.
The winners of the Art and Science categories went home with five hundred thousand naira each, the first runners up in the two categories received two hundred thousand naira each while the second runners up received one hundred thousand naira each while the second runners up received one hundred thousand naira each.
The participants had earlier took a tour of the Odinana Museum venue of the event.
