In response to the present administration’s constant Aku Luo Uno clarion Call, a new smart Awka City project has commenced in Awka.


Governor Willie Obiano performed the ground breaking ceremony and inauguration of the facilities for the Awka Millennium City, at the three-Arms Zone, by Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Agu Awka.


Government House correspondent, Ejike Abana witnessed the ceremony and reports that Awka Millennium City Project, being executed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Model, will be completed in thirty months.


The official flag off of construction work on the site was attended by top government officials, including former Governor Dame Virgy Etiaba, Anambra State House of Assembly members led by the Deputy Speaker, Dr Paschal Agbodike, traditional rulers led by Chairman of South East Traditional rulers’ council Igwe Alfred Achebe and investors, among others.


Performing the function, Governor Obiano who described the developer as a reliable investor, judging from the experience of the past, called on people to come home and patronize the project which will have all amenities in place.


While appreciating all the people that contributed to bringing the project to its current stage, Governor Obiano asked them to as much as possible, avoid tampering with the rich vegetation.


The Commissioner for Housing, Architect Michael Okonkwo, said with the project underway, days are gone for land speculation in the area and assured that the developer has designed the project in a way that everything needed for comfort, will be provided.


The Chief Executive Officer of MP Infrastructure the firm handling the project , Chief Clem Nwogbo said that the project is in line with the Governor’s vision to create a new city, adding that they have since mobilized to site as promised, assuring that they will sustain the tempo of work on the project as funding and equipments needed have been sequenced out.


Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project between M-P Infrastructure and the state government was signed in June 2019.


The total investment value of the project is forty-six point five Million dollars with the state government donating the land as equity, which has the Profit sharing formula of seventy three percent for M-P Infrastructure, twenty four percent for Anambra State Government while three percent is for the community social responsibility projects.
