There is a time in one’s life when he wakes up and begins to ask himself that vital question, are my truly on the right track or are my ignorantly embarking on a futile odyssey. With his obvious melancholic state, he can boldly take that hard decision that will take him to his desired destination. That hard decision is what Ndigbo should take at this critical time.
This is the time for Ndigbo to embrace the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in order to put a stop to the inhuman treatment and their lamentations in the hands of other political parties in Nigeria. It is about time Ndigbo would say enough is enough to this continued bizarre experience, complaints and obvious betrayals from other political parties.
Ndigbo should borrow a leaf from other regions such as the Yoruba nation. The Yoruba elite, politicians and other professionals, including technocrats, academia, artisans, farmers, petty traders, rural and urban dwellers came together, queued behind and marketed the Alliance for Democracy (AD), which metamorphosed into what it is today called the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ndigbo who grew up in Lagos State saw how the Yoruba nation wrestled power from the then ruling and dominant political party in 1999. It was a serious physical and spiritual warfare. The Yoruba nation used what they had to achieve their ultimate goal of liberating the nation from the stranglehold of other political bigots.
While they were doing all these things, there was no concrete evidence that AD would offer a better alternative in terms of providing them with democracy dividends but, because they wanted to have a voice, they formed a common front and rallied round their leaders in the party. Hence, they collectively resolved to chase other parties out of Yoruba land.
The struggle paid off heavily. They did not only capture Lagos and some Southwestern states, their children where recognized and appointed into juicy political offices, even by other parties to woo the race.
Today in Nigeria, other political parties are struggling to win a state in the South west. Ndigbo can do better than that here in the South east, South South North Central and wherever Ndigbo are found, only if we can put our acts together under one political party, APGA.
If the Yoruba nation could do all these, not minding the resultant effect or whether democracy dividends would get to them at the end of the day or not, how much more Ndigbo who have seen that APGA-led governments in Anambra State have done marvelously well since 2006 till date.
Ndigbo should shun unnecessary avarice and personal aggrandizement and team up with APGA leadership to place the race on a right footing for political bargain in Nigeria, after all, politics is a game of number. It is not an exaggeration to say that APGA is the only true and alternative to Igbo liberation and emancipation.
With what APGA government has done in Anambra State since 2006 till date, political pundits are of the view that the party is the surest path to Igbo’s political Eldorado in Nigeria. Let’s make APGA indestructibly indispensable.
