The Anglican Bishop of Niger West, Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe has charged priests to always live life of integrity.


Bishop Ekwe gave the charge during the Advent ordination of the Diocese at the Cathedral Church of Saint Gabriel Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area.


Five Deacons were ordained priests and two ordinands make deacons while seven persons were licensed as Lay Readers during the event.


Performing the ceremony, Bishop Ekwe urged them to live a live worthy of their calling, noting that before one is ordained, he must be well examined.


Bishop Ekwe cautioned priests against acts capable of debasing their vocation.


Earlier in a sermon, the Retreatant and the Diocesan Clerical Synod Secretary, Venerable Charles Chukwurah reminded the priests that call to serve is a service of honour.


Some of the ordained including Reverends Samuel Onwube and Mrs Mercy Ilorah thanked God for chosen them to serve in his vineyard promising to living up to expectations.
The priests later took oath of canonical obedience.


In a related development, eight Ordinands were last Sunday made Deacons by the Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo.


Speaking during the event, which took place at the All Saints Cathedral Onitsha Bishop Nwokolo charged the new Deacons to adorn themselves with Christian virtues and continually stir up the gift of God in them to make Christ known to all people.


The eight Deacons were also vested with their paraphernalia of office while the Bishop gave them the New Testament Bible among others to equip them properly in their Ministry.


Earlier in a sermon titled The Faithful Steward in a time like this, Venerable Chidi Nwadike who noted that the new Deacons specialized in different areas of education, enjoined them to work towards restoring fast disappearing family values and societal norms in their duty posts.


Venerable Nwadike who noted that teaching is a noble profession reminded the Deacons of the huge task before them in teaching and mentoring the young ones.
The eight Deacons were later administered with oath of canonical obedience while special Christmas song and litany for the ordination raised the spiritual tone of the event.
