Work is progressing at the Umudunu-Uruokpala-Adagbe gully erosion site, Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area.


This was observed when ABS crew acompanied the Traditional Ruler of Abagana, Igwe Mbamalu Okeke, and members of his cabinet inspect the site.


That during the visit, it was observed that heavy duty construction equipment were all actively involved in the construction process.


It was also observed that greater percentage of the road has been sand-filled and graded, while a dam-like drainage channel is being constructed at the site.


The project is a joint intervention between the Federal and State Governments as well as the World Bank.
It is being supervised by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.


Speaking shortly after the inspection, Igwe Okeke, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far while the contractor of the firm handling the project, Mr Frank Nnaji, assured of its timely completion.


In their various reactions, the Project Co-ordinator of NEWMAP, represented by Mr Emeka Achebe, Team Leader, Anambra Focal Non-Governmental Organization, Professor Peter Nnabude, Traditional Prime Minister of Abagana, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze and others, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the ongoing work, and commended the present administration for taking necessary measures in ensuring strict adherence to standards.
