As part of activities marking 2020 Igu-Arọ Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Council Area of Anambra state which holds on Saturday, 4th January, 2020, Enugwu-Ukwu Mmonwu (Masquerade) festival held on Thursday, 26th December, 2019 at Ụmụnri Palace, near Nkwo Market, Enugwu-Ukwu.
The event which was sponsored by telecommunications giant, MTN as part of their cultural promotion and corporate social responsibility (CSR) was attended by over 10,000 spectators and featured masquerade displays and stick fights.
The traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Sir Ralph Ọbụmnaeme Ekpeh said the festival which dates decades is one of the ways Ndị Enugwu-Ukwu uphold and promote Igbo culture.
Ozonkpu Jude Ekwunife, the Culture Minister of Enugwu – Ukwu said the yearly festival will be sustained as it has become a key feature in the annual mass return activities of ndị Enugwu-Ukwu.
Chief Pat Nwume, the Chairman of Enugwu–Ukwu Igu-Arọ Commission thanked MTN, Senator I. G Abana and all those who sponsored this year’s festival and appealed to other brands and organizations to leverage on the growing appeal of the festival by sponsoring future festivals.
Prizes were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd best masquerades in the stick fight.
