The maiden edition of Dunukofia Konti Cup has kicked off at Saint Mary’s High School Ifitedunu.
The game is sponsored by the Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo.
It was a tough battle between Ukpo and Umudioka, the two communities that commenced the tournament.
The first goal was scored by Ukpo community ten minutes into the game while Umudioka leveled within the first half.
Ukpo community eventually scored another goal during the second half to seal the match 2- 1.
Speaking at the end of the match, the sponsor of the game, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo said the game aims at building the youths of the local government positively to put an end to youth restiveness, and also a measure to engage them in professional football.
Engineer Okonkwo, added that the match is geared towards fostering love, peace and mutual relationship between all the communities in Dunukofia council area.
Also speaking, the Members representing, Dunukofia Njikoka and Anaocha Constituency at the House of Representatives, Chief Dozie Nwankwo and his Anambra East and West counterpart, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, commended Engineer Okonkwo for organizing such event for youths.
They urged other Transition Committee chairmen to key into the program by engaging the youth on social activities that will better their lives and minimize social ills like Cybercrime, prostitution and cultism.
It is expected that at the end of the tournament scheduled to hold on Fourth January, 2020, the winner will take Five hundred thousand naira, the first runner up will take Three hundred thousand while the third wining team will take Two hundred thousand naira home.
The event also attracted Commissioner for Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, Sports Stakeholders and people from all walks of life, while a popular musician Slow Dog, trilled the audience with music.
