Communities have been urged to use the yuletide to initiate development projects in their areas to complement state government’s interventions in various sectors.


Speaking in Awka, the state president of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene Said this would accelerate pace of development across the state.


Chief Okeke Ogene noted that every community in the state has benefited from the community choose Your Project Initiative of the present administration which enabled them to execute projects that impact directly on the lives of the people.


He noted that infrastructural development in rural areas has opened up the Agricultural belts of the state which enhance farming activities and food production across the state with commendable dividends towards achieving food security.


Chief Okeke Ogene made it clear that Agriculture remains the hope for the future of the Nigerian economy as it would soon replace oil as major foreign exchange earner and major contributor to the National Gross Domestic Product, GDP.


He explained that the Agricultural value chain also has potential to provide permanent solution to challenge of youth unemployment, social vices and crime as well as discourage rural l-Urban drift and illegal migration to foreign land with attendant risks involved.


Chief Okeke Ogene called for the review of the school curricular at all levels of education to redesign system of learning that would focus more on skill acquisition and vocational education that would equip pupils and students to become self reliant early enough in their lives and commended Governor Willie Obiano’s sustained efforts towards youth empowerment.


Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Gabriel Nnabuife expressed satisfaction that many youths are now getting involved in agriculture and urged community leaders to give them necessary support by providing land and necessary assistant that would encouraged them to excel.
