People of Mgbakwu community, in Awka North Local Government Area, have elected Chief Edwin Udefuna as their new President General.
Chief Edwin Udefuna was elected unopposed in the election organized by Mgbakwu community, as he had earlier been selected by members of Amaeze village Mgbakwu, whose turn is to produce a candidate for the PG position, due to the rotational arrangement put in place for the office by the community.

Mgbakwu community is made up of seven villages, namely: Amaezike, Amaeze, Amankpu, Uruaku, Uruotulu na Uruonaga, Amede, and Achallaumana.
Members of the community’s new executive who were selected from each of the seven villages of the community are: Comrade Ejike Nnatu, Vice President General, Comrade Paul Nwafor, Secretary General, Mr. Obiekwe Achufuna, Assistant Secretary General, Mr Onyema Onwurah, Organizing Secretary, Comrade Solomon Nwafor, Financial Secretary, Messrs Nchechube Nwafor, Treasurer, Ibekie Nwikwu, Public Relations Officer, Matthew Nwoye, Chief Provost, Chukwujekwu Ekwunife, Provost Two , Edwin Nwoye Provost Three , and Ejiofor Nwoye, Provost Four . Chief Udefuna who hails from Amaeze village, is the fourth President General of Mgbakwu Progressive Union.

In his speech, the PG elect of the community, Chief Udefuna thanked members of the community especially people from his village, for believing in him, and promised to serve them beyond their expectations.
He said he will do all within his powers to strengthen peace and spirit of brotherhood among members of the community as well as ensure more cordial relationship between indigenes and non indigenes of the town to accelerate development .

Some of the community members that spoke to the ABS, including the Chairman of Amaeze village, Mr. Nnamdi Uchenna, elderly men from Achallaumana village, Chiefs Emmanuel Ibekwe, and Igboamalu Oraekwulu said the PG position is well deserved by Chief Udefuna as he has proven himself worthy of such honour through his numerous good deeds and philanthropic dispositions, and assured him of their unalloyed support throughout his tenure, for greater Mgbakwu community.
Speaking on behalf of the community youths, the Mgbakwu Youth Chairman, Comrade Christian Edochie described Chief Edwin Udefuna as a lover of youths who had never joked with issues that concern the teaming youths of the town, expressing hope that the new position will spur him to do more for both the youths and the entire community.
The outgoing President General of the community, Chief Nweze Okafor commended the comportment and maturity exhibited by Mgbakwu people before, during and after the election which he described as peaceful and best of its kind in the history of the community.
