Association of Anambra State Women in Ireland gives succour to persons with disabilities in the state with a charge on government and individuals to do more to bring them at par with their counterparts in developed countries.


Speaking during the event, the President, Association of Anambra State Women in Ireland, Mrs. Theodore Ayagwu explained that they are a charity organization that have achieved much including campaign on cancer awareness and donation of education materials to a primary schools in Awka.


Mrs. Ayagwu thanked the state government, especially the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano for her assistance to the less privileged in the state.


Delivering a lecture on disability and health, Dr. Ifeyinwa Illoh of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, advised couples to maintain healthy lifestyle and desist from unhealthy practices like alcohol intake, conceiving while treating any illness or disease and conceiving at advanced age which according to her, might also affect the formation of the baby hence causing disability.


In their remarks, the chairman on the occasion, Mr. Innocent Nduanya and the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Special Education, Mrs. Ify Enekwechi said that disability is not a death sentence as the state government has given persons with disablities a sense of belonging, calling on groups and individuals to join efforts in making sure that the disabled in the society are well catered for.


Items presented to the disabled includes: Gas cooker, wheelchairs, Sewing machines, Computers, Chairs and Tables amongst others while the benefitting schools included DSEC Nnewi, RECDOT Ozubulu, and Lady Theresa Azodo Special Education Centre Umuchu.


Ann Chizoba, one of the beneficiaries, appreciated ASA Ireland for their kind gesture and praying God to bless them immensely.
