The rich cultural heritage of Agulu community in Anaocha council area was brought to the fore as their traditional ruler, Igwe Innocent Obodoakor performed his third Ofala festival.


The event, which took place at the Igwe’s palace, also marked Igwe Obodoakor’s twenty-four years on the throne and installation of the new Traditional Prime Minister.


The Ofala festival is a special event performed by traditional rulers aimed at thanking God for his subjects and activities throughout the year.


The event, which climaxed when the traditional ruler, Igwe Obodoakor, danced to the tunes of igba-eze and ufie music together with his cabinets members, Ndi Ichie and others to the admiration of guests, was also a period of unveiling the local calendar of the community events for the coming year.


Praying with the colanut, Igwe Obodoakor thanked God for his mercies attributing it to the reasons for the existing communal peace, harmonious relationship, brotherliness and oneness among the people.


While charging his subjects to emulate the virtues of some of their illustrious sons and daughters, who have distinguished themselves in their different life endeavours, Igwe Obodoakor commended Governor Willie Obiano for adequate peace and security in the state.


Earlier in a homily during a Pontifical High Mass to commemorate the Ofala, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor noted that the church assists in promoting the culture and traditions of Ndi Igbo and called for its inculcation in the younger generation for posterity.


For the member representing Anaocha One Constituency in the state Assembly, Honourable Ebele Ejiofor, who was conferred with a chieftaincy title, called on the youths to embrace education and skills to be useful to their communities.


In appreciation, the chairman, Local Organising Committee, Chief Chukwudi Igwe thanked God for the successful Ofala, stating that Igwe Obodoakor has been a man of peace, who wants the progress of the community calling on Ndi Agulu to give him more support to strengthen their royal institution.
