To assist government in achieving quality education in schools across
the state, the Old Students Association of Okija Grammar School Okija,
has held its inaugural meeting with a call on members to give back to
their alma mater.

The event which took place within the school’s premises attracted old
students of the school at home and in the Diaspora, who have
distinguished selves in various human endeavors.

In his opening remark, the steering committee chairman, Honourable
Okey Asika, said the old students association will work as a team to
impact on the development of Okija Grammar School, be abreast with
affairs in the school and make proper representation to the outer
world.

Other objectives of the association according to Honourable Asika,
included encouraging younger ones passing through the school,
uplifting Okija Grammar school to its enviable height, as well as
occasionally recognizing and appreciating staff and students of the
school.

Speaking on the state of affairs of Okija Grammar school, the
Principal, Mrs. Mabel Ifebuzor, who is also an old student of the
school, thanked the state government and Okija indigenes in USA for
renovating most of the old buildings in the school.

She listed other needs of the school to include, fencing of the school
premises, increase of staff strength, provision of standard library,
computer theatre and science laboratories, among others.

Earlier in a keynote address, Doctor Emma Nwokedi charged members of
the association to put resources together in achieving the visions and
missions of the school’s founding fathers for the benefit of future
generations, adding that the inaugural meeting will serve as a reunion
that will create opportunities for members.                                                         

Speaking after renewal of mandate of the steering committee, the
Secretary, Chief Azuka Onwuama, appealed for support of members to
enable them achieve their targets, which are in line with Governor
Willie Obiano’s objectives in the education sector.

He enjoined public-spirited individuals to assist government in
addressing pressing needs of the school.

Cultural dance by students
of Okija Grammar school entertained members of the old students
association, who went round the school premises to inspect available
facilities.
