It is always good to celebrate while alive so that the celebrant will be at the centre of the celebration.


That was the situation when a veteran broadcaster, Nze Joe Maduekwe celebrated his ninety years birthday.


Blessing Ijedibia, who was at Ojoto in Idemili South council area, also met Joe Maduekwe’s elder sister, who is one hundred and eleven years old.


Nze Maduekwe, a retired presenter in ABS can easily be described as a playwright, a novelist and a producer.
Some of his works that projected him are “Ofia na-aso nkata”, “Catechist Nwaibe”, “Ezeonyeagwanam as well as his major role in the old popular TV drama, “Nwa DC.


His Igbo Novel, “DINTA was among the famous Igbo WAEC syllabus in the 80s.
His ninetieth birthday celebration attracted people from various walks of life including the traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu and the Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Patrick Onwuaghayi, who said longevity is from God, described Nze Maduekwe as a worthy son of Ojoto, who had contributed immensely to the development of the community.


On his part, a onetime Managing Director of the ABS, Sir Amobi Adirika said the celebrant, who is multi talented, tasked his brain for useful purposes and urged the people to take delight in selfless service not minding the financial benefit.


On their parts, his wife Sara and first son, China Maduekwe described their husband and father as a man of Peace and thanked God for the gift of longevity.


Earlier during a prayer session, the Vicar of Saint Barnabas Anglican Church Ojoto and Venerable Stephen Nzekwe of All Saint Church Amaenyi Awka, thanked God for the life of Nze Maduekwe calling on Christians to pursue peace and appreciate truth always.


The celebrant, who was born in 1930 listed truth, peace and transparency as his secrets to longevity.


Highpoints were presentation of a book on Ojoto, cutting of birthday cake and special dance steps by the celebrant, his wife and sister.
