Umunnachi Community has won the Final of the Konti Football Competition. The tournament, aimed at discovering new talents, took place at the pitch of St. Mary’s High School Ifitedunnu with spectacular performance .

Umunnachi and Ukwulu communities played competitively and eventually Ummunnachi community emerged the winner with five goals to one.


Speaking at the end of the match, the Transition Committee Chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo promised to sustain competition.


Engineer Okonkwo, who initiated the
tournament, explained that it started at community level to local government level and commended the government of Willie Obiano for its support to the youths, noting that the tournament is one will help to foster togetherness among communities.


Also speaking, the member representing Awka North and South at the Federal House of Representative, Honourable Chinedu Onwuaso said government at all levels have roles to play in making sure that football becomes robust especially by providing the necessary infrastructure and policy framework instead of living it solely in the hands of individuals especially and commended Engineer Okonkwo for his initiative.


The coordinator of the championship, Mr. Emeka Odionu and some community members including Mr. Bartholomew Anaekwe and Felix Ichie, who noted that the competition will foster unity, growth and development as well as empower youths of the local government area.


Six communities participated in the tournament with the winner going home with five hundred thousand naira, the first runner-up, three hundred thousand naira while the third went home with two hundred thousand naira only.


Trophy and medal presentations also featured at the tournament.
