Anambra State government has pledged to look into the town union leadership tussle in Ogboji, Orumba South council area.


The Special Adviser to the Governor on Town Union Matters Barrister Vera Okonkwo, made the promise while addressing people of the community who called on her at the Government House Awka.


The community came out in their numbers to fight what they call lingering crisis that was allegedly introduced by the past leadership of the community’s town union which led to constitution of a nine man caretaker committee to man the affairs of the community.


Addressing members of the community, Barrister Okonkwo said that Ogboji is one of the communities of the state that is so close to Governor Obiano’s heart, assuring that government woukd swing into action immediately to bring the situation under control.


Speaking on the issue, the Woman Leader of the community Mrs. Ujunwa Onuigbo, said that trouble started when the past leadership in the community started selling lock up and open shops built at their ancestral market with their community twenty million naira choice project, to non indigenes of the community, inspite directives from the traditional ruler of the community and state government not to do so.


Mrs Onuigbo said that the women made several complaints to relevant authorities in the town, which lingered until December 2019, when the town union election was due and explained that due to the crisis, stakeholders in the community, unanimously selected the nine man committee to run the Town Union and bring back peace to the community, pending when government will conduct substantive election for the town union.


On his part, the Traditional Prime Minister of the community Chief Kay Anyacho, explained that the traditional stool of the community is strongly in support of the nine man committee constituted to broker peace and ensure that those who bought the shops are given back their money.


The contractor of the project, Prince Neville Uchendu, stressed the need for the women to be allowed to go back to their shops as they were promised before work commenced at the market, pointing out that Governor Obiano’s interest in introducing the programme is to enhance the living condition of people at the grass root not to cause them pain.
