The Anambra State House of Assembly has renewed the tenure of eighteen Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen and their members for three months.


The House renewed their tenure during yesterday’s plenary in Awka.


The House renewed their tenure in line with section two hundred and eight of the Local Government Law as requested by Governor Willie Obiano.


Speaker of the House, Honourable Uche Okafor read out their confirmation while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.


However, the Transition Committee Chairmen for Idemmili North, Dunukofia and Onitsha North Local Government Areas were stood down by the House during the confirmation process but all other nominees for the local governments were confirmed.
The affected local government chairmen are Mr. Emeka Okonnkwo, Dunukofia, Mr. Raphael Nnabuife Idemmili North and Mr. Patrick Aghamba, Onitsha North.


In a vote of thanks, the Transition Committee Chairman, Onitsha South Local Government, Mr. Emeka Asoanya thanked the Anambra State House of Assembly for renewing their appointment, assuring that they will work with them and the Executive Arm of Government to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.


On his part, the Transition Committee chairman, Orumba South Local Government Area, Chief Raymond Onyegu also commended the House and Governor Willie Obiano for giving them another three months to serve his people, adding that he will live up to expectation within the three months he will pilot the affairs of the local government area.
