The Federal Government says it disbursed the sum of one hundred and forty-two point six billion naira to State governments and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for successful implementation of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, between 2015 and 2018.
The money was the Universal Basic Education matching grant to States as well as the deduction from the Paris Club refund to States for onward provision of needed facilities in public primary and Junior Secondary Schools across the Country.
The sum of seventy-one point three billion naira was deducted by the Federal Government from the Paris Club Refund accruing to the States.
The other seventy-one point three billion naira came from the marching grants from the Universal Basic Education Commission.
But the three states of Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau, according to the document on the status of matching grants to states, were yet to complete their counterpart funding, a development that led the government to withhold over twenty point three billion naira due for them.
The amount released to States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, was part of over one hundred and seventy-three billion naira released to Universal Basic Education Commission so far by the present administration as matching grant since its inception in 2015.
