A ghastly motor accident that occurred yesterday at Enugu-Agidi axis of the Onitsha- Enugu express way claimed a life and injured three persons.
The accident involved three vehicles, a Honda SUV with registration number GGE 309 FK, a tipper lorry AWK 922 XJ and a trailer with Lagos number.
Staff reporter Njideka Okoye reports that getting to the scene of the accident, it was observed that officers and Men of the Federal Road Safety, State Fire Service, the Police and their sister agencies were busy intervening in one way or the other, while the body of the driver of the Honda SUV has been taken way and those injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
Speaking to the ABS, the Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Pascal Anigbo said their Men rushed to the scene immediately they heard of the accident and explained that the accident was due to wrong overtaken.
Mr Anigbo noted that with the efforts of FRSC , the police and their sister agencies, the corpse of the dead who was trapped in the vehicle was evacuated and those injured were taken to a hospital in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government area for treatment.
He advised motorists not to be in a hurry but exercise patience and have absolute concentration while driving.
An eye witness, Mr Daniel Okeke said the tanker driver was heading to Onitsha when the driver of the Honda SUV was trying to negotiate an overtaking before he collided with an upcoming tipper lorry as the tanker laden with petrol ran into the bush on trying to avoid the Honda SUV.
He thanked God for the effort of the trailer driver, as according to him many vehicles would have been affected.
