Governor Willie Obiano, on assumption of duty about six years ago, first of all, formulated his mission and vision statement. In pursuit of these objectives, the governor launched a security initiative. This was to set agenda for a new stable state, which was hitherto under the siege of criminals. Within his first three months in office, virtually all the flash points and hide outs of criminals in the  were recaptured by Akpokuedike’s security joint task force. It became clear to all that it was no longer business as usual.

The crime-free atmosphere automatically paved way for conducive business environment. Ndi Anambra, who had refused to return home before the emergence of Obiano, began to return home. Investors thronged the state from across the world and normal life returned to Anambra, the most cherished Igbo speaking state.

Kudos, however, must go to the founding fathers of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. There is no doubt that since APGA took over the state, Anambra changed for better. In fact, APGA is rated the third most populous and acceptable political party in Nigeria today.

Having secured the life and property of Ndi Anambra, Governor Obiano hit the ground running with Human Capital Development, particularly among the youths. He did not stop at that. Sir Willie added value to the democratic process by creating and empowering the forth tier of Government in the State.

He involved the communities and traders in running the activities of government through his community choose your project initiative, which he replicated in markets in Anambra state. This gesture is now a new dimension in the annals of political history of Nigerian Democracy. Hence, it is being copied by various states in Nigeria.

Again, Governor Obiano understands that every labourer deserves his or her wage. Thus, he launched the cry-no-more welfare package for all categories of workers and pensioners in the state. Akpokuedike equally demonstrated his humane disposition when he donated one hundred million naira to the victims of Ochanja market fire disaster, despite paying hospital bills of others.

Above all, Sir Willie appointed a crack team of young technocrats into his cabinet. No doubt, the success story of the Obiano administration cannot be complete without given credence to the hardworking members of the Anambra State Executive Council. They work as a team to make the state better.

For instance, just recently, a group of vandals attempted to stage a come back into Anambra State, particularly at Upper Iweka. The ugly development was immediately tackled headlong by the joint efforts of the state government officials. The state government equally introduced far reaching measures to clean up the Transport sector in line with the objective of the Obiano administration.

Above all, for Governor Obiano, payment of salaries and pensions is not a privilege but a right. He has consistently paid worker’s salary on or before the 25th of every month. This has earned him the popular name “Alert Governor”. No wonder, the workers of Anambra state are now saying; could there be another Obiano or would they, after Akpokuedike, return to their prayer rally ground at Aroma Junction where they sought God’s Intervention in those days of locust.

Ndi Anambra will never forget in a hurry those months of hunger and strike when schools were shut and workers of Anambra state turned to street beggars. To God be the glory that their prayers were answered. In his maiden speech at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka  on March, 17, 2014, Governor Obiano said to the workers of Anambra state, Quote: ‘This Egyptians you see Today, you shall see them no more’’. End of quote. And true to type, the situation has changed for the best. Ndi Anambra therefore pray and hope that we shall never go back to the days of locust.
