Work is in top gear at the Second Niger Bridge, even as the project is about thirty two percent completed.


Several Piers have been laid in the water from Asaba to Onitsha axis of the River Niger.


ABS also observed that men of the construction Firm handling the project were seen transporting materials to the construction site with speed boats.
The Swampy area at the Atani Road Axis has also been sand filled.


According to the Resident Engineer, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Engineer Iheanyi Aguwa, the project started from Asaba and will terminate in Onitsha with two Secondary bridges at Amakom village road Delta State and Atani Road adding that a new cloverleaf interchange will be constructed at Onitsha Owerri Road which he described as an important segment of the project.


Reacting to the development, the traditional ruler Of Ossomalla, Igwe Victor Awogu commended the pace and quality of work done so far on the project, enumerating the socio economic importance of the bridge to the South East and South West geopolitical zones of the country and the country in general.


On his part, an Onitsha based business man Mr. David Okafor, commended the Federal Government for the project saying that the first bridge has lasted for so long and needs to be relieved to avert collapse while appealing to the Federal Government to make fund available for prompt completion of the project.


Work commenced on the eleven point nine kilometers project in 2018 with over two hundred and six billion naira initial contract sum and expected to be completed by February 2020.
