The Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practice, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim says the State government will leave no stone unturned in exploring the huge potential that abound in the traditional medicine to provide wholesome health services to Nigerians.

He stated this during a Radio programme tagged Health and life style on the Anambra Broadcasting Service in Awka.

According to Dr Ibezim, traditional medicine can be valuable in addressing the myriads of health challenges in the nation saying that traditional medicine has been the main source of health care for the vast majority of Nigerians.

He noted that although traditional medicine has thrived over the years due to its large patronage, a major challenge it faces is that of non-standardization.
Dr Ibezim said that the State government has concluded plans to set up research centers and to collaborate with institutions of higher learning in carrying out joint research in the areas of indigenous medicine as well as maximizing the huge potential that are inherent in traditional medicine.

He said that the Traditional Herbal Fair planned between second and twenty-second March this year, targeted to expose the potential in that sector and announced the plan to commence an Advanced Diploma Course in Indigenous Medicine at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, to achieve a standardized traditional medicine system in the State.

He further hinted on plans to introduce executive bills to the State Legislature to enact the right legislation that will standardize operations in the sector and make Anambra State a hub for Indigenous Medicine research.
