From all indications, the present administration in Anambra state, which came on board about six years ago, believes in the popular saying that anyone who fails to plan has planned to fail. For this reason, it has held fast to its vision and mission, hence the good governance and delivery of democracy dividends.
Even as the citizenry savoured the peaceful and blissful Yuletide, during which their friends and relatives living in the Diaspora felicitated with them in conducive environment, Governor Willie Obiano wasted no time this January to commence inspection of ongoing projects across the state. This impressive gesture is coming on the heels of his recent investiture as Knight Commander of the Pontifical Order of Saint Gregory the Great by the Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis, at the Vatican City, Rome.
The facilities inspected in his first phase of the tour include the International Conference Centre at Agu Awka; roads leading to the proposed cargo airport at Umuleri and ten intra city roads at Fegge in Onitsha South local government area. They are; Silas Works road, Oraukwu, Miss Ellens, Ofili, Anekwe, G-House, Alor, Akokwa, Ihiala and Kano streets.
Other ongoing projects in other parts of the state inspected by the governor include; Eziowelle-Umunnachi-Afor-Igwe road and Ezinnaja Oraukwu-Nimo road in addition to Stamford Hotel road, near the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka. Other people-oriented projects recently inspected by Governor Obiano are the Obizi-Uga and Otuocha Regional Water Schemes in Aguata and Anambra East local government areas respectively.
True to its promise during last year’s rainy season to reactivate massive road construction and rehabilitation in the dry season across the state, the Obiano administration has kept faith with Ndi Anambra. Right now, most roads hitherto ridden by potholes during the rainy season have been repaired, while the state has indeed become a huge construction site.
Equally, Sir Willie facilitated the palliative work on federal roads in the state, including the ongoing reconstruction of the Anambra state section of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, in addition to the second Niger bridge project at Onitsha.
It is indeed a happy thing that in spite of the propaganda by certain uninformed people against the governor and his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano, the administration has maintained absolute focus on “Egalitarianism”, a form of government that places premium on providing “the greatest good for the greatest number of people”.
Even as it is poised to commence implementation of the new minimum wage for workers in the state this January, the government has continued to place utmost priority on protection of lives and property of the citizenry. Its community-choose-your-project initiative is yielding positive results.
In its characteristic responsiveness, the Obiano administration, sequel to the Ochanja market fire disaster last October, has repositioned the Anambra State Fire Service and has equally motivated its firemen to be more daring in their responsibilities. In recent times, the state fire service, in conjunction with some security agencies and the Federal Road Safety Commission, has promptly prevented fire outbreak escalation in the state.
Indeed, the Obiano administration has done a lot to sooth frayed nerves and bring laughter to the faces of Ndi Anambra as signified by the illumination of hitherto dark alleys in the state, thanks to its ongoing roads and streets Light- Up program across the state.
Apart from building the biggest and most sophisticated oxygen production plant in the Southeast at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, the present administration has introduced a health insurance scheme for the masses. The scheme is being managed by the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA.
In fact, the accomplishments of the Obiano administration in the past six years are unparalleled. They are numerous and of high quality.
