The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP, says it will embark on aggressive awareness and public enlightenment this year to check the spread of human trafficking across the Country.


The Director of Public Enlightenment of the Agency, Mr Arinze Orakwue stated this in a telephone interview with Abuchi Nwozor.

Mr Orakwue, who said that NAPTIP has a programme titled “Not for Sale” which is aimed at advising the public that children are not marketable commodities charging parents to be wary of the kind of persons they give out their children to.


He stated that every Nigerian has a right to migrate to other countries but maintained that due processes on migration need to be followed.


Mr Orakwue called on government at different levels to provide an enabling environment and facility that will ensure effective teaching and learning in schools and colleges, to check the excesses of human traffickers, in addition to empowering the women properly.


The Director of Public Enlightenment of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons called for all hands to be on deck to check the activities of human traffickers who he described as criminals.


Mr Orakwue disclosed that the agency will continue to partner Nongovernmental organization, Civil Society organizations and other dedicated groups in the ongoing fight against human traffickers.


He commended the Anambra Broadcasting Service for all its programmes to sensitize the people on the need to be good citizens.
