It has been a moment of joy and celebration across the Country as Corps Members began to receive their monthly allowance reflecting the new national minimum wage as promised by the Federal Government.
Our Correspondent, Jane Joshua monitored the mood of corps members serving in Awka on the development and reports that the new thirty-three thousand naira monthly allowance for corps members in the country is part of the implementation of the new minimum wage signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on April eighteen, 2019.
Speaking to the ABS, a Corps Member serving with the State Ministry of Agriculture, Awka, Miss Ezinne Kalu expressed joy over the new increment, as she confirmed that she received her allowance, adding that she is fortunate to be part of those benefiting from the increment.
Miss Kalu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the NYSC management for the implementation, and promised to improve on her service to her fatherland, as she is already motivated.
Another Corps Member serving with Anambra Broadcasting Service, Miss Chiamaka Okeke who expressed joy on the increment, said it will help her increase her savings to start up life after her service year.
For Mr Oluwasegun Ogundiya serving under the Agro-allied Community Development Service Group, he had not received his allowance, but was sure that he would get it soon.
Mr Oluwasegun, however, confirmed that his colleagues have started receiving theirs.
Recall that the Director General of the NYSC, General Shuaibu Ibrahim had earlier confirmed the approval of the new increment from nineteen-thousand eight-hundred Naira to thirty-three thousand Naira during a working visit to Bauchi State earlier in the week.
