It is no longer news that Anambra State has recorded the first Lasa fever disease.


Based on that, correspondent, Blessing Ijedibia was at Eke Umuoji, Idemili North council area to ascertain the level of awareness on the dreaded disease.


The choice of the village market is based on the fact that bulk of the population of the town and environs converged there every four days for business transactions.
ABS news crew asked the traders if they are aware of the safety tips needed to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease, some of the respondents affirmed having the knowledge while others do not.


On his part, Mr. Onyeka Okoye, who was among those that affirmed having the knowledge, advocated improved personal hygiene, including frequent washing of hands as well as keeping rodents away from homes.


He also said that he will imbibe the habit of covering food items in his home as a guard against contacting the disease.


Contributing, Mrs. Nwabimma Okafor said she heard about the disease but has no knowledge of its dread nature.


She commended the state government efforts in educating the populace about the disease adding that she had already, imbibe all the safety tips.


Also speaking, an Okada rider, Mr. Friday Nwaite emphasized on the use of rat poison in keeping rodents away.
