The people of Owerre-Ezukala, in Orumba South Council Area, have elected Sir Anayo Emejue, as the new President General of the town.


Sir Emejue was elected unopposed in an election organized by the community, as he had earlier been selected by the Ihie Village, Owerre- Ezukala, whose turn it was to produce a candidate for the position, due to the rotational arrangement put in place for the office by the community.


The Election, which took place at the Community Town Hall, Ishishi Square, was supervised by Officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government, Town Union and Chieftaincy Matters and witnessed by the Igwe’s cabinet chiefs, the Election Committee and eminent sons of the town both at home and in the Diaspora.


Owerre-Ezukala Community is made up of eight villages, namely, Okpoghota, Okpu, Ihie, Iyiafor, Isiafor, Ogwuada, Lete and Mkputu.


Members of the new executive who were selected from each of the eight villages of the town are: Mr Okey Nwosu, Vice President General, Mr. Baron Achugbue, Secretary General, Messrs Fabian Onyegu, Financial Secretary and Kanu Nwankwo, Treasurer among others.


In their separate remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South, Chief Raymond Onyegu and the Chairman of the Electoral Committee who is also the Special Assistant to Governor on Community Liaison, Honorable Ogechukwu Nduche, commended the composure and maturity exhibited by Owerre-Ezukala people before, during and after the election which they described as peaceful and best of its kind in the history of the community.


On his part, the traditional ruler of Owerre- Ezukala, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya, expressed the hope that the PG-elect will continue from where his predecessor stopped.


In his acceptance speech, the PG-elect, Sir Anayo thanked members of the community for believing in him and promised to serve them beyond their expectations pledging to do all within his power to ensure peace and spirit of brotherhood among members of the community.


Earlier in his valedictory message, the PG Emeritus, Mr. Martin Orji, enumerated the various achievements of his administration and commended Governor Willie Obiano for the first and second phases of Community Choose your Project Initiative, in which Owerre- Ezukala benefited immensely.


Speaking to newsmen, some stakeholders in the community, including Sir Evans Ihesi, Chief Sunday Nnebe and Chief Norbert Emejuo, said Sir Anayo deserved the PG position as he has proven himself worthy of such honour through his good deeds and assured him of their unalloyed support throughout his tenure for a greater Owerre-Ezukala Community.
