The Federal government has promised to provide farmers with ten thousand tractors to boost agricultural output in the country.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Nanono, said the tractors, fertilizers, chemicals and other inputs would be distributed to farmers under a soft-loan scheme designed to boost agricultural mechanization in the country
According to a statement from the ministry, the Minister announced this during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Sanusi.
He explained that the government would distribute the ten thousand tractors and inputs to farmers in the seven hundred and seventy-four local government areas in Nigeria explaining that each of the councils would be allocated tractors worth one hundred and fifty million naira and inputs as soft loan to be repaid in an eleven year plan.
While saying that the Federal Government would begin the implementation of the programme in the second quarter of this year, Alhaji Nanono emphasized that the beneficiaries must be genuine farmers and indigenes of the participating Local Government Areas.
