The quest for robust evangelism may have suffered a setback, following the recent disruption of construction work on the site for the Cathedral Church of Mbamili Diocese of the Anglican Communion, at Umuikwu Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area.

The destruction of the church facilities and threat to life were allegedly committed by some youths in the area.

The Bishop of Mbamili Diocese, Right Reverend Henry Okeke while briefing the press at the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael’s Umuikwu Anam, alleged that some youths stormed the Cathedral premises shooting sporadically.

He said that they destroyed the Foundation of their Cathedral still under construction and broke some glasses of their parsonage.

According to the Bishop, the crisis started in 2018 when they wanted to fence the School premises.

The Curate of the Church, Reverend Okechukwu Udechukwu and the Head Teacher, Crowther Memorial School Comrade Ifeanyi Aniesodo, who is also a native of Umuikwu Anam in their separate speeches, regretted the development.

Reacting to the incident , an Elder of the community, Chief Mike Ofordile, disclosed that they are all going to meet at the next Eke market day to deliberate on the matter, just as the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Ben Onyeka, promised to wade into it with the elders to proffer lasting solution.
