Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated the commencement of the Joint Maternal Neonatal and Child Health week in Anambra State.


He performed the function at the Primary Health Center, Akpo in Aguata Local Government Area.


The Maternal Neonatal, Child Health week is aimed at improving the health status of Nigerian women and children by increasing coverage of key maternal, new born and child health interventions by fifty percent of the current indices in 2020.


Governor Obiano called on Nursing Mothers and caregivers in Anambra State to avail their children, aged from zero to fifty-nine months the opportunity.


He disclosed that his administration has renovated over two hundred and fifty hospitals in Anambra State, saying that immunization is also being given to people in the hinterland.


The Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala stressed that benefits of the weeklong intervention is enormous, and used the opportunity to ask Ndi Anambra to prevent themselves against LASSA fever by making perfect health practices.


The Executive Secretary Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu emphasized that Anambra has always participated fully in the National programmes pointing out that the commodities distributed to all primary health centers, are given free, across the State to ensure full implementation of the week.


The Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Disability Matters, Mr Chuks Ezewuzie said that the intervention is beneficial to the people living with disabilities, while the World Health Organization representative in the State, Mr Chukwumuanya Igbokwu said that intervention gives them the opportunity to evaluate the Governments contribution in the Health sector.
