Dozens more infections from COVID-19, the new corona-virus spreading
throughout the world, have been recording among those on board a
cruise ship docked at Japan’s Yokohama.
Some one hundred and seventy-five people are now infected on the
Diamond Princess, including a quarantine officer.
About three thousand seven hundred passengers and crew are on the ship.
The death toll in mainland China continues to rise, with one thousand
one hundred and thirteen deaths and forty-four thousand six hundred
and fifty-three infections. Most deaths are in Hubei province and its
capital city of Wuhan, where the virus originated.
At least twenty-five countries have confirmed cases and several
nations have evacuated their citizens from Hubei.
Two deaths have been recorded outside mainland China – one in Hong
Kong and one in the Philippines .
The World Health Organization has warned that the virus poses a grave
threat to the world, with Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, saying the
virus could have more powerful consequences than any terrorist action.
