In the next one month, Nigeria will have a direct flight to Mumbai- India.


Anambra State born Dr. Allen Onyema of the Air Peace disclosed this at the 2020 India-Nigeria Business Forum.


Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that Dr. Onyema regretted that in spite of the huge and aged India-Nigeria economic relations, especially in the health sector, there is still no direct flight from Nigeria to India.


Dr. Onyema, stated that business opportunities between India and Nigeria are enormous hence the need for a direct flight connectivity to further boost economies of the two countries.


He lamented that foreign airlines are making it difficult for local flights to grow but commended the Federal government for giving them the opportunity for interconnectivity and pledged commitment of the company to always serve Nigerians better even as he disclosed some other regional and international countries they will connect in the next one month.


Also speaking, an Orsumenyi born Dr. Ifedi Okwenna, said India’s export to Nigeria increased by twenty seven percent in 2019 and called for a seamless visa issuance to Nigerians by India for easier accessibility.


He stressed that Nigeria is the sixtieth largest oil producing country and India purchases about thirty percent of the product.


Dr. Okwenna also advocated more targeted investment in ICT, power and agriculture, adding that Indian investors should explore the possibility of rural internet enabled atmosphere for many Nigerian Communities cut off from the mainstream data communication services.


According to Dr. Okwenna, there should be partnership and exchanges between Nollywood and Bollywood to strengthen socio-cultural ties.


Earlier, the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Veeramani Surendra, who spoke on the theme of the meeting, “Giant Leaps Together,”
said India expends about fourteen billion dollars on over twenty five thousand jobs created in Nigeria.


He disclosed that the country’s road map for the future centered on technologies, artificial intelligence and robotics, pledging that they will continue to cooperate with Nigeria and Nigerians.
