Anambra State government has warned developers against building structures without approvals.

The Acting Managing Director of the State Physical Planning Board, Mr. Nwabufo Anene gave the warning when officials of the board embarked on demolition exercise at Omagba Phase Two, Onitsha.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that on arrival, it was discovered that structures were erected on flood channels meant to service the area.

Mr. Anene said that the Board’s mandate is to ensure controlled development across the State, pointing out that the erected structures contravene the building code existing in the State.

The Acting Managing   Director explained  that the primary role of any responsible government is the security of lives and property of its citizenry, adding that the continued existence of the buildings pose risk to Ndi Anambra.

He disclosed that  the Board issued directives to developers of the structures against building and wondered why they went ahead in defiance of the order and recalled  that when Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Program, NEWMAP embarked on erosion control in the area, compensations were paid to the developers and  wondered why   they went ahead to erect the structures.

One of the affected developers, Chief Ugwu who hails from Nsukka, claimed that there was no contravention on his part and that he was at the point of attending to the invitation from the Board when he learnt that the demolition was already in progress.
