In line with the Anambra State Government’s safety initiatives in schools, education stakeholders have been urged to key into all activities geared towards preventing the outbreak of Coronavirus and Lassa fever in the schools.
In a release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Basic Education, Mr. Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, Principals and Head Teachers in public and private schools across the state have been directed to intensify efforts in the implementation of hand washing programs and other hygiene practices in schools.
The release stated that the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha had during her visit to Migrant Fishermen School Onyuu, Ogbaru council area, reintroduced school children to proper hand washing method using running water from a tap.
It directs all schools in the state to ensure that hand washing facilities including buckets with tap, water, liquid soap and sanitizers are in place in their various schools.
The release also stated that the Ministry had earlier embarked on a number of emergency preparedness and sensitization of stakeholders on the need to prevent Lassa fever disease which has become a threat to human lives.
It further mandates parents, teachers and education secretaries to embark on preventive measures to fight the outbreak of the viruses now that the state is free from them.
According to the statement students should be advised not to drink raw garri as rat which is the major carrier of Lassa fever virus can easily defecate on it as well as avoid activities capable of exposing them to the deadly coronavirus which is reported to have claimed many lives in China.
