Christians all over the world are observing today as Ash Wednesday.
It is the beginning of a forty day Lenten period which marks the preparations for the passion and death of Jesus Christ culminating into His resurrection.


Services will be held in all the Churches during which the fore heads of the worshippers will be marked with ash to remind them that they were made of ash and onto ash they shall return.


Speaking on the significance of the day, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, noted that the period calls for reconciliation and faith in God.


The Catholic Prelate called on those in authority to make security a top priority even as he encouraged Christians to always have a heart of gratitude.


The Archdeacon of Agulu group of Churches Archdeaconry and Vicar of Saint Stephen’s Anglican Church, Venerable Silas Ikeh thanked God for the Church season’s through which souls are lifted and meet requirements in order to walk in righteousness stating that the day reminds them that they are dust and unto dust they shall return.


The Anglican Priest called on Christians amidst challenges facing the country to embark on fervent prayers, commending Governor Willie Obiano for what he is doing in the State praying God to strengthen him.
