Thousands of direct and indirect jobs are to be provided for the teeming youths during the stages one and two of the construction of Awka Millennium City.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige made this known while inspecting work on the site.
Correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that Dr Ngige commended Anambra State government for providing good atmosphere for such facility and for supporting the move through provision of infrastructure including access road and land expressing satisfaction that the state government and individuals have moved into job creation thereby helping the federal government to provide jobs.
The Minister, disclosed that the project will add to his ministries efforts towards providing jobs for the people, adding that the federal government has built three acquisition centers in Anambra state where youths would be trained on many skills.
He further explained that Awka Millennium City will provide single job components with multiplier effects including manual labourers, bricklayers, carpenters among others would be engaged .
While appreciating the minister for the visit and Governor Obiano for his many supports that have accelerated work on the site , the Chief promoter of the project, and Chairman of M-P Infrastructure Ltd, Mr. Clem Nwogbo said such move is an inspiration to him adding that the project is a Public-Private Partnership project with the Anambra state government.
Mr. Nwogbo explained that the modern housing project which was born out of the Aku Luo Uno Clarion call by Governor Obiano, covers over one hundred hecters of land, that has four phases of development , adding that within the next eighteen months the first and second phases would be actualized.
He added that the third and the fourth phases involves packing in and fixing of basic amenities like malls , cinemas among others , within thirty-six to forty-eight months.
Another stakeholder, Prince Donatus Okonkwo described the project as a welcome development, as according to him, time has come when the state should have cities that make environment attractive and habitable, noting that every strata of the society can afford a house at the millennium city.
Awka Millennium City is a housing scheme that would give Ndi Anambra an opportunity to own a house at an affordable price and enjoy good neighbourliness that has all basic amenities.
