The cheering news that the Nigeria Police High Command had chosen Anambra State for the 2020 biennial Police games was received by the good people of the State with great joy and excitement.
No doubt, the decision of the Police High Command to select Anambra State for the historic games clearly underscored the general belief and acknowledgement that Anambra State, under the able leadership of the indefatigable and dynamic Governor Willie Obiano is obviously the safest State in Nigeria as exemplified by the twenty-first century state of the arts security architecture now in place in the State.
Only recently, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, officially commissioned the digitalized security vehicles and gadgets procured by the State government for the security of Ndi Anambra and other citizens domiciled in the State.
The Police games starting today in Anambra State is therefore a reaffirmation of the fact that Anambra State is the safest State that currently enjoys relative peace and absolute tranquility, occasioned by the adequate security network operating across the State.
The Nigeria Police hierarchy must therefore be commended for its due recognition of Anambra State as one of the safest States in the country and which had informed its wise choice of the State for the historic event.
Police authorities must also be commended for using the Police games as a veritable instrument for the promotion of healthy body and mind of its personnel. No doubt, the ten-day sports extravaganza, will obviously remove the minds of the officers and men from their daily highly tasking and hazardous duties. It will make them enjoy more relaxed and convivial atmosphere among the athletes themselves. It would equally make the personnel enjoy personal interactions with their fellow Nigerian compatriots who are expected to watch the games in their large numbers to cheer them on.
The common saying that all work without play makes Jack a dull boy is very apt in the context of the foregoing exposé.
About three sporting venues are selected for the sports fiesta namely: The ultra-modern Rojeny sports stadium, games village at Oba in Idemili South LGA; The Otuocha sports stadium in Anambra East LGA and The Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where the official opening of the games takes place. The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is the Special Guest of honour
The Police athletes are camped in a conducive environment. Hence the newly built and furnished NYSC camp at Umuawulu-Mbaukwu as well as the surrounding hotels are selected for their maximum comfort.
It is no gainsaying the fact that, Ndi Anambra are very happy and proud for the rare honour done to them by the Police High Command and look forward with great enthusiasm to the sporting event which commences today. It will end Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Therefore, Ndi Anambra, in unison, welcome all the Police sports men and women to the “Light of the Nation” state and assure them of our legendary hospitality. We wish them a happy and exciting stay in Anambra State and healthy competition. Nnoonu n’Anambra State.
