The Bishop of Amichi Diocese, the Right Reverend Ephraim Ikeako, has urged teachers to emulate the Sterling quality and teaching methodology of Jesus Christ as the foremost great teacher.


Bishop Ikeako was speaking at the Teachers House, during a Solemn Assembly organised by Nigeria Union of Teachers Anambra State wing.


Education correspondent Theophilus Ukoha was there and reports that Bishop Ikeako in a sermon, challenged teachers to be addicted to proper teaching methodology and to teach with compassion.


He emphasized the importance of mastering every useful and needed teaching methods citing Jesus Christ as an example, who taught perfectly to both the poor and the rich.


Quoting the book of Luke chapter six verses thirty nine and forty, the Bishop urged teachers to become models as everyone who is perfectly instructed will be like his teacher.


In their homilies, Reverend Father Raphael Ezeogu who dwelt on teaching as a divine gift, and Reverend Father Chukwuemeka Cletus who spoke on teaching in a contemporary society, emphasized the need for teachers to take their profession as a vocation designed by God to build professionals for a better society.


Later in an address, the State Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mrs. Nonye Chibueze said the aim of the solemn assembly was to seek divine approval and signature of God in all the Union programs and activities throughout the year.


The event featured prayer sessions for greater attention to the welfare of teachers, health and welfare of pupils, students and their parents and prayer for peace in Nigeria.


The Solemn Assembly had in attendance the Deputy National President NUT, the State Deputy Chairman Comrade P O Obi, Acting State Secretary Sam Egwu and teachers from all the Educational Zones in the state.
