The weeklong Twelfth Biennial Nigeria Police Games tagged Anambra 2020, has ended.
The closing ceremony was held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
Government House Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that over the past one week, delegates from the twelve zones of the Nigeria Police, including the Force Headquarters, participated in sporting activities hosted at different locations in the State.
President Muhammadu Buhari represented by the Minister of State for Environment, Barrister Sharon Ikeazor, conveyed his appreciation to the participating contingents for successfully achieving the objectives of the games.
President Buhari said that the gains of the games are enormous to security, reiterating that security is sacred and a constitutional obligation, noting that the Nigeria Police is central to achieving this obligation.
The President added that he is impressed with the Community Policing Model of the Nigeria Police and called on officers of security agencies in the Country to sustain their sense of sacrifice to duty, stressing that his administration will continue to play its constitutional roles.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Muhammed Adamu in his speech, declared that the Anambra edition of the games is the best because of the commitment of the host, Governor Willie Obiano, his entire team, and the organizing committee.
Mr Adamu who commended all athletes that participated for keeping the flag of the Nigeria Police flying, appreciated the Governor for affording them the platform to achieve their sporting goals.
He further commended the hospitality showcased by Ndi Anambra to the Nigeria police, expressing optimism that the next event in 2022 will build on the achievements of Anambra edition.
Governor Obiano in his speech, described the event as historic as the famous hospitality of Ndi Anambra helped in bringing out the best in the games, stressing that sports unites and renews national unity.
The Governor added that Anambra doors are open to the world, assuring that the sporting facilities put in place, will be put to the best use, as it will become grooming grounds for budding talents.
Parade by the Nigeria Police, plaques, trophy and medals presentation to overall winners and performances by Slow Dogg, Flavour, and Harry Song, marked the successful completion of the exercise.
Besides promoting understanding among the police officials, the games further helped in strengthening the ties between the police and the Anambra populace.
