The Former Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba has advocated education and equal attention to children in the family.
Dame Virgy stated this in Awka during the International Women’s Day celebration organized by NACCIMA Business Women Group Anambra State Chapter.
Women Affairs Correspondent, Amaka Okoye was there and reports that the program which drew participants from different sectors has its theme as “Each for Equal.”
Addressing the women, Dame Virgy said that proper education broaden the mind of children and make them mentally alert , productive and live positively.
She lamented that some families give male children attention more than the female children and called for the strict implementation of child’s rights law of to address such anomalies.
In a keynote address, the State Deputy Chief Registrar, Mrs Nkolika Okafor said that gender inequality is an aged long issue rooted in culture which affects the potential deposited in women.
She stressed that the thirty-five percent women affirmative agenda of the federal government is a mere policy, calling on women to promote, support and be part of the struggle for gender equality while they use their career and potential maximally.
In a welcome address, the State Coordinator of Business Women Group of NACCIMA, Mrs Uche Chukwu disclosed that the group was established to strengthen the initiative of empowering Nigerian Women economically stating that International Women’s Day Is a focal point in promoting women’s rights.
In a paper presentation on tips for successful business, Lady Uche Egwuatu urged women to have self confidence, do thorough planning, have knowledge of what they are embarking on, be creative and utilize their money judiciously.
Contributing, a member of the group, Lady Path Okeke encouraged the women to put in practice all they learnt as it will improve their business career and add to whatever they are doing reminding them of packaging, self reliant and comportment.
Speaking to news men in an interview, two of the participants, Dr Uju Okoye and Mrs Christiana Okonkwo said the program was motivational as it has exposed them to many things they were ignorant of and commended the coordinators.
The program featured free medical test, and lectures on skill acquisition by Nkechi Udegboka.
