Social Media has introduced a new set of media influencers who unfortunately are not in the sight of government or media regulators.


The Acting Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Professor Armstrong Idachaba, made the assertion at the ongoing content for digital TV- Effective Management and Successful Monetization Forum in Abuja.


Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that the two-day programme, which was organised by the Broadcast Media Africa in collaboration with Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, BON, dwelt on charting ways of getting, managing and monetizing the right contents for local producers.


Speaking on video content driven by social values in the digital/internet era, collaboration between broadcasters and regulators, Professor Idachaba, said Nigeria is challenged by many social issues such as terrorism, tribalism among many others and called for all hands to be on deck to mitigate them.


He said in as much as regulators have a mandate to protect society from harmful contents, it becomes mandatory for the regulators to institute mechanism for control hence the need for traditional media houses which delve into social media to get license to do so.


Earlier at the opening ceremony, the chairperson BON, Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim urged participants to utilize the forum to improve their contents for better remuneration.


On his part, the Director General NTA, Mallam Yakubu Mohammad, represented by a Director in the Establishment,  said  that content is King no matter the platform and commended the organizers  adding that  the gathering will give the needed impact especially on the younger generation to give the best content and as well, make more money for their platforms.
