The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioners for Works and Transport to regulate and prevent the incessant erection of speed breakers on Anambra roads.


House of Assembly correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Ogbaru One Constituency, Honourable Noble Igwe during plenary.


The lawmaker expressed worry at the rate speed bumps are being erected incessantly without caution signs, stressing that they endanger drivers, who do not expect them, disrupt the routes of emergency, impedes comfortable journey, contribute in severe vehicle collision and cause lots of damages to vehicles.


On his part, the Chief Whip, Honorable Lawrence Ezeudu stressed the importance of speed bumps on state roads but urged government to regulate the rate at which they are being erected so that the ultimate importance would not be abused.


The member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu and the member for Nnewi South One Constituency, Honourable Sunny Ozobialu also spoke in favour of the motion.


The Deputy Speaker, Dr. Paschal Agbodike, who presided over the plenary described the motion as a life saving one and read out the resolution to the House while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.


Supporting the motion for adjournment, the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Nonso Okafor commended the giant strides Governor Obiano has recorded in office in the second term of his administration urging him to rehabilitate the dilapidated roads in Nnewi North constituency.
