The Vice Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Charles Esimone has described the role of traditional rulers in the growth and development of the society as critical.
Professor Esimone stated this while playing host to the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Awka South chapter, who called on him in his office at the university.
The group was led by the chairman of the chapter and the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu.
Receiving the group, Professor Esimone appreciated them for the visit which he said was timely since they are his landlords and are needed to give good councel that would help move the institution higher.
Professor Esimone assured them of lasting cordial relationship with them as he noted that they are an integral part of the society that should not be neglected.
Earlier while intimating the Vice Chancellor of the reason for their visit, Igwe Egwuonwu said it was to familiarise with him, welcome him formally and to thank him for his numerous exploits few months after assuming office.
Igwe Egwuonwu commended the Vice Chancellor for the last recruitment and admission exercises held in the university, which he said parts of the council area benefitted from.
Igwe Egwuonwu alongside his counterparts from Okpuno Igwe Sunday Okafor, who is the Vice Chairman Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, his Nise counterpart Igwe Rowland Iloh, and their Ezinator counterpart, prayed God to grant the Vice Chancellor the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the institution for the good of all.
